Here’s a
dictionary of general vet vocab that I’ll regularly update, to help you with your
studies.
Analgesic: painkillers. Analgesia is the relief from pain.
Anthropomorphism: associating human characteristics and interpretations to animals
Anthrozoology: the study of animal-human interactions
Auscultation: listening to the internal sounds of organs such as heart and lungs using a stethoscope
Collegial: shared responsibility amongst colleagues
Congenital: present from birth

Endoscopy: procedure where a tubular instrument (endoscope) is used to allow having a look into the internal structures of the body
Fasciculation: twitching or brief contractions of the muscle
Gravid: pregnant
Haematology: study of cause and treatment of blood diseases
Monopoly: when one person/group of people solely have control over the provision of a service/trade.
Negligence: failure to appropriately care for something
Normothermic: having a normal body temperature
Oncology: a study of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancers
Ovariohysterectomy: spay; surgery to remove the ovaries and uterus
Palpation: using hands and fingers to feel parts of the body in a physical examination
Prognosis: the predicted course of development of a disease
Scintigraphy: nuclear diagnostic test where radioisotopes enter the body via drugs and emit gamma radiation which is picked up by gamma ray detectors to form an image of a part of the body.
